Squash is a demanding sport: one hour of play equals approximately 900 kcal, comparable to running. However, it is technically straightforward. You can learn the basic rules in 5 minutes and play your first match immediately. Here is a plan for your first three visits to the court.

Hour 1: Rules and first exchanges

Squash is played one-on-one in an enclosed court (9.75 × 6.4 m). You serve from the service box; the ball must hit the front wall above the tin (lower boundary) and below the out line. Your opponent must return it to the front wall before it bounces twice on the floor. Points are played to 11 (with a margin of 2). Rackets and balls are provided by every facility (approx. 100 Kč).

For the first hour, only practice exchanges from the centre of the court (T-position). Do not play to win; just get used to the speed of the ball and its rebound off the walls. Borrow from volnykurt.cz blue ball (faster for beginners) - black will cool down and you won't overplay it.

2. Hodina: pohyb a T-pozice

Key squash tips: after every shot, return to the centre of the court (T-position = intersection of lines). Your opponent will try to send you into the corners, maintain discipline in returning to the centre. In the second hour, focus more on where you finish after a shot than on the shot itself.

3rd hour: purchasing assistance

After three hours you'll know if it suits you. If so:

Squash is intense. If you do not play sports regularly, play the first hour at only 60% capacity and gradually increase it. Knees and ankles suffer the most, quality shoes and a warm-up are mandatory.
